Here in our ancient Umbrian village of Pettino we’re very unpretentious about truffles. For our family truffle hunting is an everyday job and an integral part of our family’s life, livelihood and culture. Truffles, too, are an everyday part of our cuisine.
We eat truffles, find truffles, sell truffles almost every day of the year.
Umbria is in the heart of Italy, and it’s the heart of Italy’s truffle culture and production. In fact, Umbria produces the highest number of black truffles in Italy and their quality is famous throughout the world. Fortunately, truffle hunting in Umbria remains a beautiful and simple way of life – the mountains, the hunter, the dogs, the forest, a small pick and a leather bag more often than not full of truffles.
In our village of Pettino there’s been a truffle hunter in every family for centuries. It’s a way of life and a knowledge and trade handed down from generation to generation.
You can experience the magic of this tradition, here in Pettino, with our renowned Wild Foods Truffle Hunt. We’ve created this to share our way of life with you in a hope that you’ll immerse yourself in an authentic experience. We’re humbled by the many travelers that have graciously recounted their stories about their truffle hunting day with us.
The Wild Foods Truffle Hunt is so much more than truffle hunting, too.
It’s a day where you’ll be wrapped up in the traditions, atmosphere, sights and sounds of country life on our farm, forest and traditional village in Umbria. Experience amazing cuisine, truffle dogs, incredible scenery, the poetic life of an Umbrian shepherd, loads of local wine, taste homemade Pecorino cheese like you never have, and be treated to the welcoming hospitality of our family here in Umbria.
